If you haven't travelled on the cross channel
ferries from Portsmouth recently you'll be in for a treat. Most of
the large ferries have cinemas, a selection of restaurants, shops,
children's play areas and some even have a swimming pool. We would
recommend cabins for overnight sailings and these can also be booked
for day crossings.
We have listed below the various ferry operators
and their routes.
LD Line Ferries
LD Line Ferries operate the Portsmouth to Le Havre route previously operated by P&O. The crossing time is approximately 4.5 hours.
Brittany Ferries
Brittany Ferries sail from Portsmouth to either Cherbourg, Caen or St Malo and also from Poole to Cherbourg. In the summer months there is the option of using the high speed ferry on the Poole to Cherbourg route which takes just 135 minutes.
Brittany Ferries also sail to Roscoff from either Plymouth or Cork. Although a longer drive to the properties it does offer a direct route from Southern Ireland and an alternative if travelling from the West of England.
Condor Ferries - Operate to St Malo from Poole and Weymouth.
Transmanche Ferries - Operate Newhaven to Dieppe.
P&O - Operate Dover to Calais.
Hoverspeed - Operate Dover to Calais.
SeaFrance - Operate Dover to Calais.
Irish Ferries - Run from Rosslare to Cherbourg and Roscoff.
By Eurotunnel
The Channel Tunnel from Folkstone to Calais
offers another car route to France. The drive from Calais to the properties
is quite long and is on toll motorways. However EuroTunnel do
frequently have some very good offers so may be an option, especially
for those situated in the South East of England.
By Plane & Rent a Car
There are four airports in
the area - Dinard (near St Malo), Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre. There
are flights from London Stansted and Luton to Dinard with RyanAir and
to Cherbourg from Southampton with FlyBe. Sky South operate from Shoreham (Brighton City) Airport to Le Havre. You may also
be able to obtain flights from other UK regional airports to
one of these airports.
If you are flying into the area you will ideally need a car for your holiday. Car hire is available from Holiday Autos.
